Contest Report
The 2009 WNBF NSW Championships proved to show the country how strong the fully drug-tested movement is by holding a very successful show and one of the best for 2009.
Dee Why RSL auditorium was a packed house last Sunday full of spectators spilling out of the doors to watch and show their support to see the fully drug-tested athletes take to the stage. The day started with the familiar sound of Australia’s National Anthem to kick start the event.
This show wasn’t short of quality, especially when the 19 Novice Men’s bodybuilders hit the stage. The site was breathtaking not to mention the sound of all the supporters cheers bouncing off the auditorium walls.
The judges had a tough job getting through all of them but with true professionals on the panel this didn’t seem to be a problem.
The Men’s Bantamweight division seemed to be one of the favourites of the day with nine (9) competitors including David Barry (2007 WNBF World Masters Champion). It was a tough battle but Fred Gereige from BFit Gym in Condell Park ended up winning.
The spectacular display of athleticism shown in the Women’s Fitness division was also another highlight. Canberra competitor Svetlana Kostenko performed a exciting high energy routine dressed as a Pirate took first place and Kelly McCormick from Caringbah Vision Personal Training took second place.
Congratulations to Marissa Nieves and took out the Best Body Swimsuit title and to Sophie Burch who won the USA Figure division.
The Golden Angel (WNBF Pro World Figure Runner Up) presented most of the trophies on the day and was one of the sponsors of the WNBF NSW Championships and had provided a information stand at the show for any girls looking to register for the next Pro Modelling Workshops for 2010 and to learn about how they can better prepare themselves for the stage.
Women’s Bodybuilding was another tough lineup with Kerrie Hall winning the Overall Title. Allison Eaton winning the Heavyweight & Julie Meehan the Masters 50+ Title.
The 2009 Overall NSW Mens Bodybuilding Title ended up going to Fred Gereige who took the year off competing to gain the extra size that he needed to become more competitive for the 2009 season. We look forward to seeing how he will go in the battle for the WNBF Asia- Pacific Championships at Diggers RSL/Mounties on 10th and 11th of October 2009.
A big thanks goes to Dee Why RSL for providing top class facilities for the WNBF to use on the day and to all our supporters and sponsors including Vision Personal Training, Rob and Nancy Waites (The Elegant Angel) & The Pure Muscle Shop.
Everyone that attended to watch the wonderful display of natural physiques on the WNBF stage will tell you that the atmosphere on the day was extremely uplifting, positive and motivating. WNBF are well known for their family friendly shows and with the showcase of all the amazing talent and enjoyable experience remaining on everyone’s minds we are all now in anticipation of what’s to come on the weekend of the WNBF Asia Pacific Championships on the 10th and 11th of October in four weeks.
